U.S. Scott 527 2¢ George Washington (type V) on cover postmarked in Birmingham, Kentucky, on August 25, 1921. Addressed to Joe Price of Benton, Kentucky.
According to Jim Forte’s Postal History website, Birmingham had a post office at various times between 1851 and 1943; however, the site of the town ended up under water after the Tennessee Valley Authority built the Kentucky Dam, flooding the area and creating Kentucky Lake.
Stamp’s upper left corner is missing, and cover is reduced at right and discolored on reverse.
