Chimanimani Mountains

Zimbabwe

The Chimanimani Mountains are not the best known of Africa’s natural features, but their weathered crags do appeal to those visitors who make the trek to eastern Zimbabwe.1 2 The mountains, which form a portion of the border between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, are composed primarily of sandstone, and their peaks reach heights of over 8,000 feet.3 4

An interesting feature of Chimanimani National Park is that camping is allowed anywhere within the park’s boundaries.5 Although few public facilities exist, the area’s many caves provide ample shelter for hikers who wish to spend the night.6
