Broken Bay
New South Wales, Australia
Although Captain James Cook’s description of “broken land, which appeared to form a bay” gave rise to Broken Bay’s name, experts dispute whether or not it is actually the site referred to in Cook’s logs.1 The Bay, which is located along the New South Wales coast about 20 miles north of downtown Sydney, is home to a large number of seabirds and other wildlife.2
