Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park
Finland
The uninitiated might, upon hearing that Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park contains nearly 100 islands, conclude that the park must cover a large amount of land.1 In reality, however, it encompasses less than three square miles of mainly barren rocks, with only a few larger islands supporting tree growth.2 3
Despite the small amount of land, Eastern Gulf of Finland National Park is an ornithologist’s dream. A million or more birds migrate through the area each year, with some of them forming colonies on the islands.
