Berekhat Ram
Syria
In English, Berekhat Ram is known as Ram Pool or Lake Ram.1 Experts believe the small reservoir in the Golan Heights was formed by volcanic activity at some point in the past, but were it not for a pebble found there, the site would probably be virtually unknown outside of the Middle East.2
Experts believe the tiny rock, which was discovered in 1981, is actually a prehistoric figurine. It is known as the Venus of Berekhat Ram, and a lengthy debate over its origin is largely responsible for the site’s fame.
