Astypalaia

Greece

Politically and historically, Astypalaia is Greek; geographically, it is closer to Turkey than it is to mainland Greece.¹ Some observers say the island, which is part of the Dodecanese in the Aegean Sea, is shaped like a butterfly, with an isthmus connecting its two main parts.^{2 3} Astypalaia has several beaches, some of which are fairly isolated from the island’s more heavily populated areas.⁴
