Ashtamudi Lake
Kerala, India
In the Malayalam language, Ashtamudi means “eight-coned” or “eight branch.”1 2 Considering that Ashtamudi Lake has eight prominent branches, its name is most appropriate.
Ashtamudi Lake is located in Kerala near the southern tip of India.3 Its banks are lined with coconut and palm trees, and fishermen transverse its waters in search of a good catch. The lake is fed by the Kallada River, with the water ultimately discharging into the Arabian Sea.4
