Roman Empire fantasy stamps
The Roman Empire collapsed long before Great Britain issued the first postage stamps in 1840, but it had its own courier system, the cvrsvs pvblicvs. Although it was not a postal system, some of its elements could be viewed as forerunners to modern postal services.
These cvrsvs pvblicvs fantasy stamps created by Philosateleia’s editor were produced in sheets of six. Because the service could be used only with the emperor’s permission, they are inscribed “solvm officialis” except for a single stamp in every other sheet bearing “lorem ipsvm” placeholder text. One can only imagine that the emperor would have been greatly displeased with this error.
