First Day Cover

The rotary press-printed 14¢ American Indian stamp with Canal Zone overprint was officially issued January 14, 1933, alongside the overprinted 3¢ George Washington stamp originally issued in the United States in 1932. The cover pictured here was postmarked in Balboa Heights on the first day of issue.

The addressee, Nathan Levy, was a philatelist and owner of the Canal Zone Stamp Company who lived in the Canal Zone from 1907 until 1937.1 He and his son prepared first day covers for various Canal Zone stamps, almost certainly including the specimen shown.

FDCs bearing this stamp do not appear to come up for sale very often, but neither are they espeically expensive when they do.2
