Delicate Arch
Utah, USA
Arches National Park in Utah boasts more than 2,000 sandstone arches carved by erosion, but none is more famous than Delicate Arch.1 2 Described as “Utah’s most famous icon” and “possibly the most beautiful arch in the world,” it is a favorite with photographers; around sunset, dozens of them can be found snapping shots from nearby vantage points.3 4
Delicate Arch towers several dozen feet above the surrounding landscape and provides a frame through which visitors can see the La Sal Mountains in the distance.5 In earlier times, the arch was referred to as the “cowboy’s chaps” because of its resemblance to the distinctive leggings.
