Beach of Aphrodite

Cyprus

The Beach of Aphrodite, a pebble beach on the southwestern coast of Cyprus, is the site of Aphrodite’s Rock, the alleged birthplace of the ancient pagan goddess.1 2 3 The rock is better known as Petra tou Romiou, or “rock of the Greek”; according to legend, a Byzantine warrior threw the rock into the Mediterranean Sea to destroy an invader’s ship.4 5
