Andes

Bolivia

According to some estimates, the Andes mountains extend over 5,500 miles along the western edge of South America.1 The exact distance is the subject of some debate, as other experts say the range is only about 4,500 miles long.2 Nevertheless, geographers agree that the Andes is the longest non-submerged mountain range in the world, and that it contains the highest points on earth outside of Asia.

The Andes run through the southwestern corner of Bolivia, which issued the stamp illustrated here.3 Nevado Sajama, an extinct volcano, is the highest peak in that country.4
