1851–61
Beginning in 1851, the United States issued stamps in eight different values ranging from 1¢ to 90¢. This issue replaced the country’s original 5¢ and 10¢ stamps. All of the values up to and including the 12¢ George Washington were issued both imperforate and, beginning in 1857, perforated. The 24¢, 30¢, and 90¢ stamps were sold perforated only.
