Carters Lake

Georgia, USA

Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Georgia, Carters Lake is the deepest body of water in the state.1 2 The lake formed after the largest earthen dam east of the Mississippi River was built across the Coosawattee River in the late 1970s, and it is a moderately popular site for boating and fishing.3

The local post stamp pictured here, which was issued by Philosateleian Post, depicts a portion of Carters Lake early on a December morning.
